The morning event brought together approximately 300 guests who are proven leaders in the business and educational communities in Wake County.  The goal was to raise knowledge and awareness about world-class education in Wake County, as well as convene these leaders for their best thinking through facilitated discussion on the theme.

Our keynote speaker, H. Martin Lancaster, delivered the address on the theme “Think Globally, Learn Locally: How Do We Promote World-Class Education in Wake County?”  John Dornan, Ted Fiske and Delores Parker followed, providing information and addressing questions about education from the North Carolina and global perspectives.  Questions explored included:

  • How will the global economy look when today’s kindergarteners graduate from high school? What knowledge and skills will effective leaders of that economy need to have?
  • How are the education systems in other countries structured and what curriculum and opportunities are afforded their students?
  • What role does and should the community play in ensuring a high quality educational system both here and abroad?

Following these presentations, attendees participated in facilitated conversation at each table.  The results of this discussion were compiled and shared with the large group prior to adjournment.  Feedback collected will influence the work of the Partnership in the next year.
