| Student Artists Honored at Reception RALEIGH – Local student artists will be honored at a Gifts of Gold reception today from 4:30-5:30 p.m. hosted by Wake Education Partnership at the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts, including a medal ceremony at 5 p.m. for the winning artists. The artwork of 90 students, from 70 Wake County schools will be featured in the lobby of Memorial Auditorium on March 6-7, 2007. Wake County art teachers were each encouraged to submit one piece of 2-D or 3-D student art to be honored in this showcase, which serves as the visual arts component of Pieces of Gold, the annual arts extravaganza produced by Wake Education Partnership and the Wake County Public School System. Best in Show: North Carolina Symphony Award: First Place Elementary School: First Place Middle School: First Place High School: 3-D Art Award: Pieces of Gold is an annual arts extravaganza produced by the Wake Education Partnership and Wake County Public Schools every year in order to emphasize the importance of art in education as well as to challenge students and educators in creative thinking as they prepare a performance which both entertains and supports their curriculum. The show features more than 800 students on stage and behind the scenes representing 31 groups from 30 Wake County public schools.
