Food for Thought - Grants for Educators with and Appetite for Learning
Proposal Development Guidelines
The following information should be included in a 2-3 page proposal. The proposal should be saved as a Word document in 11-point font before you begin the online application. You may format your proposal in the outline structure below. You will be asked to attach this document to your online application.
Do NOT include your name, your school's name, or any other identifying information in the proposal. This includes names of teachers, maps, mascots, clubs or anything that would identify your school. Proposals will be disqualified if any identifying indicators are present in the proposal.
All grants will include Title, Abstract, Description, Collaboration, Student Achievement, Methodology and Budget. Please select Option 1 or Option 2 for the Description category.

- ABSTRACT - A 75-word comprehensive summary of the proposal that indicates inclusion of professional development, student achievement and collaboration.

Option 1
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY (PLC) DESCRIPTION (45 points)
- Briefly discuss the professional learning community at your school that this grant will impact. If you are applying for a school-wide grant that will impact multiple PLCs, please provide information regarding each of them. Include the approximate number of faculty participating in each PLC and please indicate if this grant will be supporting an existing PLC or helping to create a new PLC.
- How will the grant proposal change instructional practices at your school in order for members of each team to become more effective educators?
- How will you know you’re successful? Using pre- and post-strategies create an evaluation tool that measures the impact of the grant proposal on the professional development of team members.
Option 2
LEADERSHIP GRANT DESCRIPTION (45 points)
- Briefly discuss the Triangle Leadership Academy concepts that you would like to advance at your school through this grant. Describe the strategy you will use to implement these concepts in a school-based environment. Include the approximate number of faculty participating in this grant. - How will the grant proposal change instructional practices at your school in order for members of each team to become more effective leaders or educators?
- How will you know you’re successful? Using pre- and post-strategies create an evaluation tool that measures the impact of the grant proposal on the professional development and/or leadership of team members.
2. COLLABORATION (15 points)
- What are the strengths and skills that each collaborator brings to the grant proposal? If this is a school-wide grant, you need not describe each individual teacher at your school. Please identify key collaborators.
- Show evidence of the role of each collaborator and how each role contributes to your proposal. If applicable, show how mentoring others at your school is used as a part of collaboration.
3. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT (15 points)
- How will your students benefit from your grant proposal?
- Using pre- and post-strategies create an evaluation tool that measures the impact of the grant proposal on what your students have learned and are now able to do.
4. METHODOLOGY (15 points)
- Create a time line and describe the action steps necessary to implement your grant proposal.
- Show evidence that your project is sustainable.
- Describe how you will share this best practice with your school faculty/community.
5. BUDGET (10 points)
- Budget items (both purchased and donated) may include project materials and staff development.
- Stipends are to be used for substitute pay (full day = $100; half day = $50) to allow teachers time outside of their workplace to engage in grant activities.
- Food items will NOT be funded and should not be included as a budget item unless they are listed under donated items or additional funding sources.
- Donated services/items are those things that are given to your grant proposal for which you do not have to pay. These should be listed and valued as individual line items in the online budget.
- Total budget funds may be greater than the budget request from the Food for Thought program. Additional funding, including other grants, is encouraged and must be shown, if applicable, in the "Other Income" section of the online budget.

In addition, your proposal should explain the need for the items, services and stipends listed in your online budget.
