Quality Matters
Since 2001, Wake Education Partnership has annually convened a diverse group of business, education, and civic leaders to examine the quality of the public schools in Wake County.
The 2006 Quality Matters Advisory Committee spent six months exploring financial data, planning systems, instructional programs, student learning outcomes, and other critical components of the school system to gauge how well it provides quality educational opportunities for all students.
Quality Matters 2006 concludes that most of the community’s attention in 2006 centered on constructing schools and adding seats for new students. The Quality Matters committee hopes its information and recommendations will refocus our attention in 2007 on what occurs inside the classroom –
• How successful are our students?
• What should we be doing to strengthen teaching quality?
• How well are we as a community funding the needs of our schools?
There is something in this report of interest to all Wake County citizens – whether a parent, business or civic leader, educator, or taxpayer. Of special interest is a school by school presentation of data on teacher retention, teacher working conditions, and student performance.
The full report and executive summary of Quality Matters 2006 and past editions of Quality Matters are available for download (see links below). Check out our “QM Updates” section in the coming weeks, where additional student achievement data and analysis will be posted.
If your organization would like a member of the Quality Matters committee to present key data and findings and lead a discussion at an upcoming meeting, please contact the Partnership’s Director of Research and Advocacy.
