School Comparisons by Board Districts
The following charts show how Wake County schools compare within and across school board districts in 2008-2009. The performance composite numbers come from the state Department of Public Instruction as part of the ABCs of Public Education program. They include end-of-grade math and reading exams in grades three through eight and end-of-grade science exams in grades five through eight.
The high school scores are based on the end-of-course exams in English I, biology, U.S. history, algebra I and civcs. An explanation from the state department's web site on how the scores are calculated can be found here.
For comparison, the overall performance composite for the school system is about 78 percent in grades three through eight and 80 percent for the high school exams.
